What is a Deposit Management System?

It is a system that adds a surcharge to the price of products and packaging that may pollute the environment and ensures that these products are collected in a controlled and orderly manner with the participation of consumers, instead of being left uncontrolled in the environment.

In this process, packages without the DYS logo will no longer be produced for single use, and packaging manufacturers will have to produce their packages in accordance with this system as the first step of this system.

The Deposit Management System is based on the return of products that are placed on the market with a certain deposit fee determined by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, after they are consumed and the deposit fee is reimbursed.

Why is a Deposit Management System Necessary?
When recycling reaches the targeted level with the Deposit Management System, it is estimated that approximately 40% less beverage packaging raw materials will be imported.

Recycling is one of the most effective steps we can take as individuals and communities to struggle / challenged by climate change. By coming together with a common goal, we can protect our communities and leave a healthy and positive legacy for future generations. It is precisely at this point that the Deposit Information Management System has launched the ”mandatory deposit recycling” portal, the first step of which started with ”Producers”, in order to track, transform and recycle all kinds of recyclable materials that may cause environmental pollution.

What is the Purpose of the System?

Approximately 50 billion single-serve beverage packages are introduced to the market in Turkey every year. The Deposit Management System, which was created to reduce the environmental impact of these packages and bring them into the economy and will be managed by the Turkish Environment Agency, aims to prevent environmental pollution and to contribute economically by renewing the disposable packaging production system, which turns into an economic loss.
Environmental Protection and Sustainability
The Deposit Management System plays an important role in effectively reducing packaging waste. On the other hand, packaging that will be recycled and reused also pioneers the principle of sustainability.
Incentives for Consumers
Adding a financial value to beverage packaging and the knowledge that the consumer will receive a price for the packaging inspires consumers to protect the environment and encourages them to recycle it.
Social Consciousness and Unity
Recycling is one of the most effective steps we can take as individuals and societies to struggle/challenge climate change. By coming together for a common cause, we can protect our communities and leave a positive mark on future generations.
Economic Contribution and Cycle
As a circular economy initiative, the Deposit Management System aims to move away from the idea that packaging is only ”produced, discarded and destroyed” and to keep it in the economy for as long as possible.
